This week we have been inspecting several ponds installed on Community Orchard spaces. At Queensway Orchard, Cranleigh we installed a water-butt overflow to redirect water straight into a new pond installed on site, thanks to some nifty work of Waverley Borough Councillor, Ken Reed. Today at Puttenham Parish's Hog's-back orchard, we inspected a recently installed pond on this chalk-downland site, removing geotextile from the bottom of the pond, to reduce future maintenance issues. Butterfly Conservation Trust were also on site maintaining small blue butterfly kidney vetch scrapes, by removing dogwood. Both ponds now need finishing, with their pond-liner margins dug in.
