On Sunday 26th February COPSE and residents of Andlers Ash planted a small Orchard within green-space at this new housing development in Liss. We planted four 3-year old transplanted trees, donated by RHS Wisley and healed into COPSE planting-beds in Spring 2022. The trees were on MM106 rootstock, included Bismarck, King of Pippins, Wyken Pippin, and Dunn’s Seedling, joined by a 2-year old Arthur Turner (M25). Protective fencing and part-rotted bark mulch were supplied by Hilliers, whose tree nursery once covered Andlers Ash. Special thanks to the 30-40 residents who helped plant the trees, make cake and brewed the tea!

The following week (22nd February) we conducted a pruning and maintenance event with Chris Sharples and the Watts Gallery heritage gardening team, followed on by an impromptu Wassail and toasting the orchard!
