Thirty residents and local Councillors attended a very informative walk organised by Waverley Housing Officer Kate Douglas in partnership with COPSE and led by head-groundsman Jason. Paul Follows (Waverley and Godalming Council Leader) on social media said, ‘Thank you to the group from COPSE (Claire and Gareth) plus WBC and GTC staff for an informative morning walk with residents around the trees and green spaces at Eashing Cemetery. So much happening and some fantastic improvements to the space.’ The next steps are to formalise a garden of remembrance design, then to prune and tend to the stone-fruit trees, during spring.

Swan Barn Orchard Pruning Day

Over 30 National Trust and Swan Barn Orchard Group volunteers attended a pruning day, lead by David Elliott (National Trust). After a training session on sensitive fruit-tree pruning, volunteers split into groups, with the trees given a much-needed prune, following three years of no maintenance, within two orchard spaces.

The recent 15-year-old orchard was pruned in the morning, Toffee Apple ice-cream made by Dylan’s from Swan Barn Apples was eaten at lunch and the 100+ year old Traditional orchard was pruned in the afternoon. It is planning to restore the root-stock bed and prune the five-year-old orchard by spring.
