29th February provided weather for all seasons, hail, sun and heavy rain. Andy and Gareth planted six fruit trees on the exposed grassland next to the Hogs Back cafe, replacing ash trees that required removal. The trees included four heritage local apple varieties; Joybells, Claygate Pearmain, Laxtons Royalty, Padley’s Pippin all on vigorous root-stocks and two cherry trees (Bedford Prolific A and Merton Glory). The trees will provide Puttenham residents and visitors with seasonal fruit. Thank you to Puttenham Parish for funding the planting and Hogs Back cafe for their hospitality. Posted by Andy

A very special thanks to Surrey Community Foundation (www.cfsurrey.org.uk) and their Orchid Environmental Trust Fund for helping to support COPSE with funding from February, for a three to six month set-up period. There is lots that COPSE needs to put in place in order to establish ourselves as a key provider of Community and Tradtional Orchard sites across the South East. We are really encouraged by initial feedback from local groups we have made contact with and have a number of exciting projects we plan to implement over the coming months. Posted by Claire
