COPSE had great fun and a lovely planting event at Puttenham’s Jubilee Field, in collaboration with our fantastic friends from Halow and Surrey Hills, led by Genia Michalak providing people-power to plant another row of fruit trees; resident and Parish conservationist Dave Williams helping to lead the event; Mike Blundell-Jones and Debbie Mitchell of Puttenham Parish Council agreeing to provide the space; Debra Lee (Surrey County Council Ecosystems Services Manager) doing the leg-work to get the grant; Adam’s Apples supplying the trees; Railtrack and the Tree Council giving the funds to buy the trees and protection…. an all-round team effort!

Waverley BC Ranger (Lucie Poole), supported by the Summerlands Conservation Group and COPSE, commenced planting a small orchard on the Summerlands Housing Estate, with trees supplied by Adams Apples, funded by the Betty Riseley Trust and Surrey County Council Climate Commission funds! We planted a sunburst cherry and apples including Ashmead Kernal, Reverand Wilks and Bloody Ploughmans, with further apple trees to be planted in early March. The plans are for a wildflower meadow to develop under the orchard. The space includes an old pear, apple and damson trees, remanent of an old orchard, prior to the Estate being built.
