Queensway Community Orchard, Cranleigh, Apple Day

Cranleigh residents came together for an Apple Day, supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, Waverley Borough Council, with fruit supplied by Waitrose and National Trust Swan Barn Orchard. Residents were offered to provide feedback on what they wish to see at the Orchard. During the Apple Day a new bug hotel was assembled by residents and fresh apple juice was made using a hand-press supplied and manned by Phil from Cranleigh School. As well as over 40 residents attending the event, three local Cranleigh Councillors also visited and support this Community Orchard … formerly a derelict, fly-tipped, unusable site.

Swan Barn Orchard Blog – October 2021

In September COPSE, National Trust and Transition Haslemere met to look at how Swan Barn Orchard can be used by Community Groups, following the National Trust local team having to move out. Each week since September we have helped arrange tasks to pick fruit for a Volunteer apple pressing and other Community fruit-related projects. On 7th October we cleaned-out of the Orchard House and made juice with Blackdown NT Team. This week we picked apples to make Toffee Apple ice-cream for Halloween. Later in winter, we plan to prune the fruit trees, which the Herdwick Sheep (photographed) already help with.
