In May Gareth inspected an orchard in Gloucestershire, planted in January 2018, with plans to set-up photo-monitoring. Dixton Hill in the background of the photo is an ancient wood and designated a SSSI and SAC for the violet click beetle. But, how will this wood look in the future, as it is dominated by ancient ash trees! Traditional Orchards are important places for deadwood beetles, maybe the rare click beetles will also use surrounding old fruit trees
