THIS WEEKEND, a new fruit tree has appeared at Lion Green Orchard, a Joybells, first raised by Will Tayler at Godalming, Surrey. Records show that trees were grafted in about 1914. It received an Award of Merit from the RHS in 1922. Fruits are crisp and juicy with a sweet and pleasant flavour. This tree was donated by COPSE Community Orchard Project South East as part of its lottery funded Jubilee Community Connections Orchard Planting Project. Special thanks to Haslemere Town Council for permissions and protective fencing and to Clive, Chair of TRANSITION HASLEMERE for his help planting the tree.
