We were very sad when our friend and Witley Cider-maker John Steere passed away on 9th July, which was his 87th birthday. We attended his funeral on 12th August, wishing his family our deepest sympathies and will miss John’s enthusiasm, guidance, wit, lively chat, songs and kind nature. John supported and advised COPSE when taking on his Witley orchard plot. At the end of the month, we had a strim under John Steere’s apple trees, while Misty Moon picked 12 trugs of cider apples. Earlier in August we took Redgate Allotment apples to RHS Wisley, from seven trees for ID.
