Apple Rescue Plan, Green Farm Orchard and Puttenham Hogs Back Orchard Care

At the end of August, we spent a morning mulching and weeding fruit trees at Hogs Back orchard, bark chips courtesy of Godalming Town Councils, Eashing Cemetery. In the afternoon we met Paul Patton of Countryside Regeneration Trust, who was concerned about what to do with apples from their Green Farm orchard, Churt, following the closure of Mr. Whitehead’s Cider! We were able to take some of CRT apples for September juicing events and passed on their details to Misty Moon cider makers.

We hope to support Paul’s team with processing apples themselves from the 80+ trees at Green Farm.

Early Pickings at Swan Barn

Despite concerns of heat-waves and droughts earlier in the year, 2025 proved to be a bumper and early fruit crop. During early August Claire and Gareth of COPSE arranged an impromptu apple picking of our early apple varieties (Discovery and Aldwick Beauty) at Swan Barn Orchard. As well as these sweet early apples, which do not keep well in storage, there was also a bumper crop of blackberries. We were so pleased that in all 13 of us ventured onto the Orchard for early pickings. The prospects for a bountiful harvest in September look promising.
