In July Gareth went on a scything course at Surrey Wildlife Trust’s Pucks Oak Barn Orchard. COPSE was to cut and collect a meadow area at Parsons Green, Haslemere, using scythes borrowed from the National Trust. Unfortunately, due to time constraints we could not scythe the meadow and had to strim the grass instead! Waverley BC re-planted a resident’s pear tree into the orchard. With the residents, we weeded and watered the apple trees, as well as collected and removed cut grass. Two yellow rattle plants were observed in the meadow, with plans to scarify and seed more in autumn.
