In April COPSE was involved with a second Earth-day at Haslemere Museum, which was well advertised and attended this year by the general public. Our friends included Transition Haslemere; Haslemere Biodiversity Project; our Natural History Society; Guildford Swift Project and the Churches. Four or five churches have conservation projects in and around Haslemere, including St. Bart’s with a mini-orchard-space created by Peter and the Den last year.
We also attended a lovely walk of enlichenment by Dr. June Chatfield of Gilbert White Museum, who introduced us to lichen in Swan Barn Orchard, including some interesting specimen growing on our fences....

It’s many grey hairs since we first set-out and planted-up Queensway orchard with Residents of Queensway and the wider community (http://www.copseorchardproject.org/blog/archives/04-2021). We now carry out regular monthly visits with residents from March to October, having planted six fruit and two filberts, a native hedgerow, installing a pond, all thriving and maturing, over the guidance of Kate Douglas, who COPSE is thankful to for all her support to create this lovely space. This month, we weeded the wildflower-patch, installed a bat box, delivered slabs for the pond margin, finding smooth (1) and palmate (4) newts in the pond and ate cake!
